KPFT Notes

Imagine a KPFT listener. She is sitting across from you, spends more time listening to your station than any other and has disposable income. You want her to make her first-ever contribution to the station.

1. What would you say? What pitch points/issues?

2. How much you would ask for?

3. How long would it take you to convince her to give?

4. Will the pitch message resonate with what the listener believes about herself, the station and its programming?

5. Will what I say help the listener place a monetary value on her use of the station, the benefits she derives from listening and the need for her financial support?

6. Will the pitch result in a more immediate response using a method that is most helpful to the station? (e.g. credit card or EFT pledge)

7. Will my appeal increase the likelihood that she will give again at the same level or more?

Here are some notes…

* Focus on what the listener gets, not what the station needs.
* Focus on number of members takes the $ pressure off
* This is a mini-drive, one week. Usually, they are at least 2 weeks.
* go ahead and LAUGH!
* “Upgrade your listenership to listener-sponsorship.” – Said
* review stories or features of your program
* you cannot give the phone # too much!!!
* more than 90% of the station’s support comes directly from listeners
* SUGGEST A PAYMENT TYPE
* “Don’t just join the conversation, JOIN THE STATION!”
* Listen to archives of other pitches
* Send me an EMAIL LETTER that I can send to your supporters
* new ideas help with motivation
* listen to others…get a fresh outlook!
* discuss with other programmers – learn from each other
* preparation makes a difference!!!
* don’t go too long with a pitch, plant an idea and return to your program
