Blogging from NFCB in Portland
Starting this week, KPFT General Manager Duane Bradley and I will be in Portland, Oregon, for the annual National Federation of Community Broadcasters’ conference. This event brings together some of the best and brightest in community/public radio to learn and teach about best practices in our field. In addition, I’ll be facilitating the Saturday-morning Program Directors’ Solution Center as I did last year in Atlanta.
During the week, as I have done every NFCB I have attended, I will be posting up session notes and impressions from each day. Also, I will be posting images and video from the various tours, meetings, etc. This is my contribution to those who cannot make it, but are interested in NFCB and some of the lessons being offered.
Full agenda is at nfcb.org. Those interested in particular sessions are encouraged to contact me and I will do what I can to make your session.
Liveblogging PC Elections Tonight
Wi-Fi willing, I expect to liveblog tonight’s Program Council elections from the Havens Center. Join me here, or pop by the Havens Center on West Alabama to partake in the fun.
Time Running Out to Apply for Program Council
On Wednesday, KPFT’s Local Station Board will meet to elect members of the Program Council, a body aimed at working on various aspects of programming.
Please visit here to apply now for the Program Council. Alternately, you may come to the Wednesday LSB meeting at the Havens Center on West Alabama, between Montrose and South Shepherd, not far from downtown Houston. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
KPFT just added two programs to our schedule, Partisan Gridlock and Growing Up in Houston, that were approved by this recent Program Council. With schedule changes continually afoot and new ideas taking flight for the PC, this year looks to be one of the better ones to come.
I also want to make a special appeal to those of you from the area’s diverse listening communities, including youth, women and people of color, to apply. KPFT benefits greatly with our many voices, but even moreso when new voices join the mix. Please contact me directly if you have questions or want to learn more.
